Small shrub, very large flowering audacity 🎨
Family: Caprifoliaceae • Pot: 3 L • Height: 45 cm
Weigela florida 'All Summer Monet' is an exceptionally elegant, compact weigela that stands out even when it is not in flower. Its foliage is the first major attraction: a dark green to purplish centre, creamy-white margins, and soft pink tones on the young growth, all coming together in a look that feels bright, refined and beautifully composed. When flowering begins, the pink bell-shaped blooms add even more charm and movement without disturbing the plant’s delicate balance. It is an ideal choice for patio pots, small gardens, the front of borders, or for anyone looking for an outdoor shrub with season-long ornamental value rather than just one short flush of bloom.
Place it outdoors in sun or light shade. In brighter positions the foliage contrast is cleaner, the pink tones are more vivid and flowering is usually more generous. It is a great choice for balconies, patios, courtyards or gardens, provided it has good air circulation and soil that drains well without drying out excessively in summer.
Design role: the low, luminous shrub that works like a decorative halo in the foreground, combining foliage colour and flowering in one compact form.
Taxonomic background: This selection belongs to Weigela florida, one of the best-loved deciduous flowering shrubs for gardens and containers, known for its bell-shaped blooms and easy garden performance.
Origin of the selection: 'Verweig 8', marketed as All Summer Monet, was discovered in July 2015 in Hazerswoude-Dorp, the Netherlands as a naturally occurring branch mutation of 'Verweig', the well-known Monet.
Naming: The trade name All Summer Monet reflects both the painterly foliage effect and the cultivar’s repeat-flowering habit, while the official cultivar denomination is 'Verweig 8'.
Distinctive character: It stands out for its compact, free-branching habit, foliage with dark purplish green centres and creamy-white margins, plus young foliage and shoot tips tinted pink.
Propagation and stability: The variety was first propagated asexually from softwood stem cuttings in 2015, and the cultivar has been described as stable and true to type through successive generations.
Why growers value it: It combines two major strengths in one plant: foliage that stays decorative through the season and pink flowers that reappear beyond the first main flush.

Yes, very much so. It is one of the weigelas that adapts especially well to container growing thanks to its compact size and naturally dense habit.
It looks best in sun, where flowering is more generous and the foliage contrast stays cleaner. It will tolerate light shade, but the overall effect is usually softer there.
No. Its natural shape is already compact and attractive, so in most cases a light tidy-up after the main flowering period is all it needs.
No, and that is one of its best features. The main flush comes in late spring, but the plant has a clear tendency to return with more flowers later in the season.
