Trachelospermum ‘Star of Sicily’® dresses a pergola or trellis in glossy dark green foliage and fragrant soft-pink flowers. The small five-lobed stars open in a playful pinwheel form, creating a gentler and more unusual take on classic evergreen climbing cover. Near an entrance or seating area, it combines privacy, colour and fragrance in an elegant living surface that remains attractive through every season.

The flowers open soft pink and stand out clearly against the dark evergreen base. The small leathery leaves can take on bronze or reddish tones in cold weather, extending interest beyond the main flowering season.

Trachelospermum ‘Star of Sicily’® is also sold as ‘Pink Showers’. The pink selection’s story passes through a variegated-plant nursery in Japan, where Ted Stephens of Nurseries Caroliniana noticed trays of plain green plants among the unusual foliage forms.

Through an interpreter, he asked Mr Sato what made them special and learned that the flowers were pink. Nurseries Caroliniana offered the selection in the United States as ‘Pink Showers’; in European trade it is also found as ‘Star of Sicily’. The original breeder’s name and selection year have not been clearly preserved.
