Trimming? Only so you feel useful. ✂️
A dwarf, spherical arborvitae with luminous golden-green foliage that holds colour through the season and bronzes slightly in winter. It naturally forms an almost perfect “ball”, looks premium in beds, borders and planters, and instantly draws a clean architectural line at an entryway or balcony.
Full sun for the strongest gold; tolerates light shade. Plant in well-drained soil, water regularly in year one for establishment, then more deeply but less often. Add organic matter and a light mulch. In planters: drainage holes and some shelter from harsh midday heat.
Species context: Genus Thuja — North-American conifers, evergreen, valued for structure/backdrop all year.
Breeding focus: Dwarf, globose Thuja occidentalis selections for stable colour and compact, slow-growing habit.
‘Golden Globe’ profile: Spherical crown; golden-green foliage that lights up spaces; light bronze hue in winter.
Phenology: Stable form year-round; slow, even growth with little need for pruning.
Cultivation behaviour: Very resilient; prefers sun–part shade and well-drained soils; suited to groups or as a specimen.
Propagation: Vegetative (cuttings) to maintain shape/colour.
