The composition

A balanced blend for moisture, aeration and stability

The main ingredients are blended in carefully measured proportions, helping roots access the moisture they need without sitting in a heavy, compacted mix.

The base of the mix

1.5 parts coco coir · 1 part worm castings · 1 part coconut husk chips · 1 part perlite · 0.5 part horticultural sand, plus small additions.

Coconut husk chips and perlite create air pockets and help prevent the mix from compacting easily around the roots.

Coco coir holds available moisture, while perlite, sand and lava gravel help excess water drain away.

Worm castings and organic nutrients support the bioactive nature of the mix and provide nutrition for approximately 180 days.

01Remove loose old potting mix

Carefully remove the plant from its pot and clear away any old material that comes loose without pulling firmly on the roots.

02Add a base layer

Add a little Ficus Mix to the bottom, then position the plant at the same depth as before without burying the base of the stem any deeper.

03Fill without over-compacting

Fill around the roots and lightly tap the sides of the pot, allowing the mix to settle without losing its open structure.

04Water and allow to drain

After repotting, water evenly and allow all excess water to drain fully through the holes in the pot.

The mix alone does not determine how often to water

Water again once the top layer has dried, always considering the plant, pot, light and temperature. No fixed schedule suits every ficus and every setting.
