Prefers shady to partially shaded areas with steady moisture. Avoid hot midday sun. Excellent for cool climates or humid indoor spots.
Dryopteris affinis, the Golden Male Fern, is native to European and Anatolian woodlands. It naturally grows under oak and beech canopies in cool, moist soils.
Its ornamental value was recognized in the 19th century, admired for upright hardy fronds and the golden-green hue of its young growth. Today it is widely chosen for semi-evergreen foliage and cold resistance.
