It just keeps on blooming 🌸
Family: Alstroemeriaceae • Pot size: 3 lt • Height: ~20–30 cm
Alstroemeria Inticancha® 'Malaga' is a compact patio alstroemeria with a full, generous look and eye-catching pink blooms with a soft yellow glow in the centre. It flowers persistently from spring right through to autumn, keeping the plant lively and ready to colour balconies, terraces or garden beds. Strong stems help the blooms stay upright and orderly, while its overall behaviour is easy-going and reliable for everyday use in outdoor spaces.
⭐ What makes the Inticancha® series special:
Inticancha® are “patio” alstroemerias with compact growth and continuous flowering from spring to autumn. They have strong stems that hold the blooms upright and travel well, while the Sun Series breeding gives better heat performance than more “sensitive” varieties — ideal for balconies, terraces and bright borders.
Place it in full sun or bright partial shade. In very hot, south-facing spots, a little afternoon shade helps to keep the blooms fresher for longer. Use a light, free-draining mix so the rhizome can develop without sitting in constant moisture. It is ideal for patios and balconies, but also performs very well in garden beds.
Design goal: a warm pink focal point planted with species that share light and water needs, for impact that lasts the whole season.
Taxonomic background: The genus Alstroemeria belongs to the family Alstroemeriaceae and is renowned for its long flowering season and durable blooms. Modern varieties are the result of hybridisation between South American species, targeting stronger flowering and performance in containers and garden plantings.
Habitat & distribution: Wild Alstroemeria species come from South America (especially Chile and Brazil), in regions where growth cycles are shaped by strong seasonality. This underpins the rhizomatous strategy (energy storage) that supports repeated flowering cycles.
Naming, series & selection: The Inticancha® range is a patio series with compact shape and continuous flowering (Mar–Oct). 'Malaga' was selected for its strong pink colour with a yellow “glow” in the centre and for its neat compact habit.
Breeding & propagation: In nursery production data the variety appears as tesmala (breeder’s name / line code). As with other modern patio alstroemerias, propagation is vegetative (rhizome division / professional nursery propagation) to keep colour, compact habit and resilience traits (including high virus tolerance) stable from plant to plant.

Full sun or bright partial shade. In brighter spots it gives stronger colour and a longer flowering season, while in very hot positions a little afternoon shade helps.
Water when the top layer of mix has dried slightly, keeping it evenly moist but never constantly soaked. Always empty excess water from saucers or cachepots.
Repot into a container around 17–21 cm, ideally when active growth starts. Plant one per pot, centred, and cover the rhizome lightly without over-compacting the mix.
In cold weather, the top growth may reduce or die back and then return from the rhizome in spring. In pots, protect the root zone from prolonged frost and excessive winter wet.
