Deep purple, pure wow 💜
Family: Alstroemeriaceae • Pot size: 3 lt• Height: ~20–30 cm
Alstroemeria Inticancha® 'Dark Purple' is the most dramatic choice in the series: a rich, deep purple that feels luxurious and instantly adds depth to pots, patios and borders. With a compact, tidy habit and generous flowering from March to October, it brings wave after wave of colour without being fussy. It’s the variety you choose when you want purple with personality — not “just another purple”.
⭐ What makes the Inticancha® series special:
Inticancha® are “patio” alstroemerias with compact growth and continuous flowering from spring through autumn. Strong stems keep the flowers upright and travel well, while the Sun Series breeding makes them more heat-tolerant than many “sensitive” varieties — ideal for balconies, terraces and bright borders.
Choose a spot with sun or bright partial shade. In very hot locations, a touch of afternoon shade helps to keep the blooms looking fresher. Use a light, free-draining mix so the rhizome can develop well without sitting in permanent moisture. It works beautifully in patio containers and in garden beds alike.
Design goal: a deep purple focal point framed by neutral foliage for a considered, design-led look.
Taxonomic background: The genus Alstroemeria (family Alstroemeriaceae) has become a key “tool” for long-lasting flowering in both garden and cut-flower use. Modern patio series are hybrids bred for compact shape, strong stems and stable colour in containers.
Habitat & distribution: Wild species are native to South America. Their rhizomatous structure acts as an energy store, allowing plants to push new shoots and flowers over time.
Naming & series: The Inticancha® line is a patio series (March–October) with compact growth. 'Dark Purple' was selected for its intense, deep purple colour and heavy flowering — strong flushes of rich blooms.
Selection & propagation: In production data it appears as tesdarklin (breeder’s line) with VBN code 321495. It is propagated vegetatively (rhizome division / professional nursery propagation) so the colour, compact habit and flowering performance stay consistent.

Full sun or bright partial shade. In brighter spots the purple looks more saturated, while in very hot positions a touch of afternoon shade helps.
Water when the top layer of mix has dried slightly, keeping it evenly moist but never constantly soaked. Always empty excess water from saucers or cachepots.
Repot into a container around 17–21 cm, ideally when active growth starts. Plant one per pot, centred, and cover the rhizome lightly without over-compacting the mix.
In cold weather, the top growth may reduce or die back and then return from the rhizome in spring. In pots, protect the root zone from prolonged frost and excessive winter wet.
