Ασυνήθιστο παχύφυτο με πολλούς βλαστούς και συμπαγή ανάπτυξη που διακρίνεται από το γνωστό Cotyledon tomentosa subsp. tomentosa συγκρίνοντας τα φύλλα, το μέγεθος του φυτού και τη διάταξη των ανθέων. Έχει ισχυρότερους βλαστούς και μπορεί να φτάσει σε ύψος το 1μ (μαζί με το άνθος του).

Τα φύλλα είναι σχεδόν κυλινδρικά, κίτρινο-πράσινα, απαλά στην αφή και καλύπτονται από μικρά τριχίδια. Τα κόκκινα άνθη του μοιάζουν με αυτά του Cotyledon orbiculata.

Εξαιρετικό φυτό για βραχόκηπους σε ζεστά κλίματα και από τις καλύτερες επιλογές για φύτευση σε διακοσμητικές γλάστρες και σε συνθέσεις με άλλα παχύφυτα.

Φροντίδα

Ανθεκτική ποικιλία και εύκολη στη συντήρηση της. Προτιμά υπόστρωμα με πολλή καλή αποστράγγιση και είναι εξαιρετικά ανθεκτικό στην ξηρασία.

Χρειάζεται τακτικό πότισμα μέχρι απορροής κατά την περίοδο ανάπτυξης αλλά αφού το χώμα έχει στεγνώσει μεταξύ των ποτισμάτων. Λιγότερο πότισμα το Χειμώνα καθώς είναι ευαίσθητο σε κρύες και υγρές συνθήκες για μεγάλες περιόδους.

Προτιμά θέσεις με ήλιο όπου ενισχύεται η διχρωμία των φύλλων του αλλά θέλει κάποια προστασία σε περιοχές με δυνατό, καλοκαιρινό ήλιο.

Αρέσκεται σε θερμοκρασίες πάνω από 5°C αλλά μπορεί να αντέξει για μικρά διαστήματα μέχρι και -5°C εφόσον το υπόστρωμα του παραμείνει στεγνό.

Εξαιρετικό φυτό για βραχόκηπους σε ζεστά κλίματα και από τις καλύτερες επιλογές για φύτευση σε διακοσμητικές γλάστρες και σε συνθέσεις με άλλα παχύφυτα.

Its name comes from the place where it was found - south of Ladismith in Little Karoo.

Unusual succulent with many shoots and compact growth distinguished from the well-known Cotyledon tomentosa subsp. tomentosa comparing the leaves, the size of the plant and the arrangement of the flowers. It has stronger shoots and can reach a height of 1m (along with its flower).

The leaves are almost cylindrical, yellow-green, soft to the touch and covered with small hairs. Its red flowers resemble those of Cotyledon orbiculata.

An excellent plant for rock gardens in warm climates and one of the best options for planting in decorative pots and in compositions with other succulents.

Care

• It requires a lot of light throughout the year, however, avoid direct sunlight especially during the hottest hours of the day.
• It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 7 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.
• Water moderately and only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce it to once every two months in autumn and to suspend it completely in winter.
• A well draining and porous soil is an optimal solution, for example formed by a mix of peat and pumice so that water does not stagnate.
• They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
