Stenocactus coptonogonus (Lem.) A.Berger
Οικογένεια: Cactaceae
Διάμετρος γλάστρας:6.5εκ
English
It is a globular cactus with a solitary habit, which can occasionally be clustered at the base. Its greyish-green stem, concave at the apex, has multiple well furrowed ribs, equipped with slightly downy white areoles. The spines are robust, curved, of a red color, which, with age, tend to whiten up. Flowering occurs in spring at the apex of the plant, generating small, funnel-shaped purple flowers with white margins.
Care
- It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations.
- It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.
- Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer and suspend watering completely in winter.
- The best soil is a well-draining and porous one, even better if further enriched with 50% or more of inert materials such as pumice, lapilli or clay.
- They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
