Opuntia tuna f. crestata

Οικογένεια: Cactaceae

Διάμετρος γλάστρας:6.5εκ

The crested shape of the cactus presents the typical fan-shaped layout with a wavy and dynamic pattern, which makes each exemplar absolutely unique, never identical to another and for this reason so much appreciated by collectors!

More commonly known as the "Coat of Joseph", Opuntia tuna is often considered a dwarf variant of the larger prickly pear Opuntia monacantha.

Like a real miniature tree, it is characterized by the shrub posture due to long, smooth and flattened stems of a bright green color, which branch abundantly.

Each segment of the stem is covered by small thorns similar to hairs that detach as soon as you come into contact with the plant.

  • It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations.
  • It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 5 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.
  • Water moderately only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once every two weeks in spring and summer, once every two months in autumn and suspend it completely in winter.
  • A medium porous substrate, consisting of soil mixed with sand, which makes it well draining. is an optimal solution.
  • They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
