it was selected in 1868 by the Adren Seneclauze Nursery in France.
It is named for its distinctive yellow needles, which appear very bright when they are young. In warmer climes the golden color remains all year-round.
This unusual and sought-after conifer is the recipient of the coveted Award of Garden Merit - not only for its good looks, but also for its ease of growth and garden-worthy characteristics.
In time it forms a stiffly upright (and somewhat irregular) cone, and it's stems are surrounded by needle-like leaves that emerge golden yellow before maturing to bluish grey.
This cultivar grows quite slowly and in a neat conical shape, so gardeners enjoy it for rock gardens and smaller spaces.
