Μεγαλύτερα άνθη από αυτά της ‘Limelight’, προσομοιάζουν τα άνθη του Υάκινθου.

Με μέγιστο ύψος 1,20μ και άνοιγμα 70εκ, είναι ιδανική για φύτευση σε διακοσμητικές γλάστρες, για συνθέσεις ή για ομαδική φύτευση σε κήπους.

Δεν έχει απαιτήσεις στον τύπο του χώματος και χρειάζεται ελάχιστη φροντίδα. Κλαδεύεται την Άνοιξη.

Περίοδος Άνθησης: Ιούλιο-Σεπτέμβριο.

Ανθεκτική μέχρι -30°C.

Πως δημιουργήθηκε:

Ένας μικρός παραγωγός στην Ολλανδία, ο Guido Rouwette, ως μεγάλος θαυμαστής της H. paniculata, διασταύρωσε τη H. limelight (με πράσινα-κρεμ άνθη) με τη H. silver dollar (κρεμ άνθη).

Το αποτέλεσμα ήταν πολλά νέα φυτά, διαφορετικά μεταξύ τους.  Ένα από αυτά όμως είχε το μεγαλύτερο μεγέθους άνθος που είχε δει ο Guido.

Από εκείνη τη στιγμή της επιλογής αυτού το φυτού, χρειάστηκαν 10 χρόνια για να ξεκινήσει η παραγωγή και εμπορία της ποικιλίας αυτής!

The most fabulous hydrangea yet?

 Hydrangea Skyfall is a beautiful hydrangea with very large flower clusters.

The flower clusters are considerably larger than those of the comparable 'Limelight'. The white flowers colour to pale pink and have large, hyacinth-like petals.

The plant has a sturdy habitus and requires little maintenance. With its size of 1.20 m high and 70 cm wide is this very suitable as a solitary on balcony or terrace, for mixed containers, for in the shrub border or for mass planting.

Plant Skyfall in the sun or partial shade. Skyfall is not picky regarding the type of soil.

Can be pruned in spring.

Skyfall is a deciduous shrub that is hardy to -30 °C.

 Care

• Position: Full sun, partial shade.
• Foliage: Deciduous shrub, leaves drop from the plant in Autumn and fresh new ones emerge in Spring. Soil and site: Any good soil that retains moisture in Summer, Hydrangeas don’t like to be dry.
• Flowering time: July to September
• Growth rate: moderate
• Ultimate height and spread: 120cm high x 70cm wide.
• Hardiness: Fully hardy.
• Aftercare: Water regularly after planting and for the first season. Prune in Spring.

Extra

Hydrangea ‘Skyfall’ was created by a small grower in The Netherlands, tucked away in the corner of the country, in Valkenburg. Guido Rouwette was a huge fan of Hydrangea paniculata and grew many types on his nursery. Thanks to this rich gene pool, he was able to have a bit of a play!

He took the ever-popular ‘Limelight’, with green-cream blossoms and an upright habit, and crossed it with ‘Silver Dollar’, a well-shaped specimen with creamy flowers.

The results were fun, and all looked a little different, however one stood out. It had some of the largest flower heads Guido had ever seen. Plus, upon closer inspection, each floret formed a perfect star as the season went on. Glory be, this was one handsome Hydrangea! It took 10 years to get it into production, but it was soooo worth the wait!!
